Understand that Creativity & exclusivity comes at a cost.
Let’s come straight to the point. The biggest misconception is Interior Designers are expensive. They are beyond one’s budget. They will make you spend a lot. Let me do it myself.
These are the most common lines we hear when it comes to hiring an Interior Designer. Somehow I have never agreed to the above lines. Designing doesn’t mean planting the most expensive things available in the market. It implies utilizing the best possible product to fulfill the requirements. It’s the best use of space, product & budget.
Let me clear off the misconception through this small incident that occurred lately:
I was recently asked to visit an apartment where I understood that the owner had spent a whopping Rs. 23 lakhs only in decorating the living room. Yes, decorating is what I will call it as it was only a display of expensive materials. Well, now the owner is not able to maintain the room & it’s in a devastating condition in a short span of time. Although the owner had spent lavishly and the materials used were not adaptable to the location. They attracted huge maintenance & resulted in a spoiled ambiance.
The owner invited us as we recently designed his neighbor’s house. As far as our knowledge and client’s reviews, we believe that we had done a stupendous job & were being applauded by many. The total cost of the interiors of the entire house was almost equal to the living room furnishing cost of the apartment we had visited. After realizing the cost incurred for making such a masterpiece, he approached us.
In the discussion, we realized that he had not opted for hiring an interior designer & had done the living room by himself. Even he was of the opinion that designers are expensive & why should he waste money in paying them. I understood his problem areas & decided to help him out of this situation. He gave us the complete authority to rework the living area & also design the rest of the apartment for him. We designed the entire apartment in proportionately half the budget of what he had spent on the hall area. This led to customer delight & also zero maintenance.
So, in a nutshell, I propose that interior designers are not expensive at all. You just need to choose the right one.
Kindly keep in mind before choosing an interior designer for yourself:
1. Choose a qualified designer by education & not by experience.
2. Along with education he should have experience only.
3. The designer should be easily approachable.
