“From Drab to Fab: Transforming Your Space with Paint”

Coloration- The Knack

Colour is one of the most paramount ingredients of interior design. It can span different moods, atmospheres, and styles in your living space. But how do you choose the best colour scheme for your house? The man behind Mevolvee design studio, Mr Akhil Chatrath gives some nips and ideas to help you.

Consider the Function and Mood of Each Room

Different rooms have different purposes and require different colour schemes. For example, a bedroom should be relaxing and cozy, while a living room should be lively and inviting. Think about the function and mood of each room and choose colours that match them.

Colour clashes and wheel dilemmas.

The colour wheel is a useful tool to help you understand the relationships between colours. There are three basic types of colour schemes based on the colour wheel:

  • Monochromatic: This is when you use different shades or tints of the same colour. For example, you can use light blue, medium blue, and dark blue for a monochromatic scheme. This creates a harmonious and elegant look, but it can also be boring if you don’t add some contrast or interest with textures, patterns, or accents.
  • Analogous: This is when you use colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. For example, you can use green, blue, and purple for an analogous scheme. This creates a vibrant and energetic look, but it can also be overwhelming if you use too many colours or too much saturation.
  • Complementary: This is when you use colours that are opposite to each other on the colour wheel. For example, you can use yellow and purple for a complementary scheme. This creates a dynamic and dramatic look, but it can also be clashing if you don’t balance the colours or use them sparingly.

You can also use other types of colour schemes, such as triadic, tetradic, or split-complementary, which are based on different combinations of colours on the colour wheel.

Follow the 60-30-10 Rule

A good way to create a balanced and cohesive colour scheme is to follow the 60-30-10 rule. This means that you use 60% of a dominant colour, 30% of a secondary colour, and 10% of an accent colour. The dominant colour is usually a neutral or a light colour that covers the walls and the large furniture. The secondary colour is usually a contrasting or a darker colour that covers the curtains, rugs, and smaller furniture. The accent colour is usually a bright or a bold colour that covers the accessories, pillows, and artworks. For example, you can use white as the dominant colour, navy blue as the secondary colour, and yellow as the accent colour for a classic and chic colour scheme.

Mr Akhil suggests that the best way to find the perfect colour scheme for your house is to experiment with different colours and styles. Don’t be afraid to try something new and express your personality and taste with colours. The best colour scheme for your house can be fun and rewarding. It can also make a big difference in how you feel and live in your space. By following these tips and ideas, you can create a colour scheme that suits your style, function, and mood. Remember, every wall whispers!
